Central European Dance Theatre has announced its 2024/2025 season - the company is preparing 4 new shows, including the National Dance Theatre and the Bethlen Square Theatre.
The next season of the KET will be truly international, starting with the presentation of artistic director László Mádi, who will 2024, the year of Turkish-Hungarian culture is created within the framework of. From this season on, our company will be joined by Gizella Noémi Nagy, Berta Pucsek and Marcell Hován, who have already been seen in our Ageless Generation and Baby Cot. You can still follow these performances in our repertoire!
Our new international cooperation is EU Dance Hack, in which our partners TaikaBox (Finland) and Developing Art (Romania). The cooperation starts from Oulu, which provided the base for the first joint Dance Hack-to. And the next stop, here in Hungary, is the Budapest Dance Hack 2024 (BDPH24), which will take place at the Bethlen Téri Theatre. The 5 days of intensive collaboration will bring together 5 multidisciplinary artists representing innovative methods from different professional fields from the European region.
In the meantime, we are not forgetting our outstanding international cooperation, also supported by the Creative Europe Programme, the Beyond Front@ (BF), which provides ongoing professional opportunities for dance, theatre and performance art enthusiasts and those interested in the arts. “Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery” is a Creative Europe project (2023-2026) supported by Central Europe Dance Theatre - CEDT (Hungary), Bunkers (Slovenia), Hrvatski institut za pokret i ples - HIPP (Croatia), Krakow Tańca Theatre / Krakow Dance Theatre (Poland), M STUDIO (Romania) and Vitlycke - Centre for Performing Arts Sweden) to promote the local development of contemporary dance.
The cooperation has also carried out several programmes in the previous season:
Through Behind the curtain, the director of the Krakow Dance Theatre participated in jobshadowing at the IX International Monodance Festival.
The Hungarian delegation then attended a Choreographers’ network event to see the creation of the Krakow Dance Theatre, which was invited to the SŐT7 in November. In May, in Zagreb, the MTE participated in a meeting with a Croatian and a Polish partner dance education institution.
There were also ongoing Dance Communication Lab programmes, where we also had to bring out a Hungarian dance artist. Also thanks to Beyond Front@, our performance Ageless Generation was invited to the Flow Festival in Sfântu Gheorghe.
The Common Creation project is currently underway, with choreographer Francesco Scavetta touring the partner countries, selecting dancers after casting and then creating the choreography with the chosen dancers in Sweden. Last but not least, the Summer Dance Academy in Cracow took place recently, where a Hungarian dancer was able to participate, also thanks to the programme.
Our annual autumn festival, the Sissi Autumn Dance Festival, is updated every year and this year it will be complemented by several accompanying programmes. The festival is organised by BPDH24 will open, followed by the start of the 13. Sissi Autumn Dance which will again offer a special experience from 16 to 23 November. In parallel IKF programmeunk (Forum of Young Choreographers) which will also see the start of the creation will be organised again this year in collaboration with the Hungarian University of Dance. And finally, for the biggest show of the season, the National Dance Theatrewill take place in the second half of the season, 24 April-én. The co-production is part of the Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery Creative Europe project with Polish choreographer Maciej Kuzminski. He is the creator and director of the first Polish Dance Network (2018-2022). His independent works are part of the repertoire of the Maciej Kuźmiński Company. Since 2014, Kuźmiński's works have been performed more than 300 times in 22 countries. Kuźmiński has won more than 20 international awards and honours for his performances for the Maciej Kuźmiński Company. As a guest choreographer, he has worked with companies such as Staatstheater Kassel (Germany), Scapino Ballet Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Polish Dance Theatre.
