About the Bridging Periphery project

The embeddedness of contemporary dance in the Central European region is insufficient. Its visibility is low, its audience is limited and its social impact marginal, despite its important mission. It is therefore essential to create and make more accessible relevant tools to support those active in the field of contemporary dance. To ensure the sustainability of the genre, artists must push boundaries not only in concept and form, but also across markets and borders.

Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery (2023-2026) is a collaborative project co-funded by the Creative Europe Culture Programme. The project aims to strengthen the contemporary dance scene in the Central European region by connecting and supporting dance actors - artists, managers, festivals and institutions.

Building on the results and practice of previous projects, the new edition of Beyond Front@ focuses on the peripheral situation of dance actors in Central European countries, covering a wider partnership network. The three-year project brings together six partner countries (Sweden, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary), all committed to supporting the local development of contemporary dance and all determined to overcome obstacles in their own contexts by strengthening mutual cooperation. The three main action areas of the Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery project are cooperation strategies, capacity building and the development of sustainable cultural production in the region. Its main priorities are to support training, enhance synergies and increase regional visibility.
