EU DANCE HACK

The EU Dance Hack
A 2-year research project, funded by the EU Creative Europe - This project is about taking the methods developed in Oulu Dance Hack and applying them in other European cities. A TaikaBox dance/tech team has been running the Oulu Dance Hack in northern Finland since 2016, and shares his knowledge with Central Europe Dance Theatre in Hungary and the Romanian Developing Art-to create the first Budapest Dance Hack in November 2024 and the Bucharest Dance Hack. in April 2025.
Each Dance Hack is an intensive residency where international dance artists gather to spend a week in the studio with creative technologists, dance/tech experts, musicians, engineers and educators. It is designed to be a safe space for experimentation with an emphasis on hands-on collaboration. The whole team works together to explore new technology in the context of performance. Participants will be selected through an open call.
The project aims to build capacity within the dance/technology sector across Europe, creating a network of professionals who can support dance artists in putting technology into practice. It is also a way to bring together businesses and cultural organisations in a mutually beneficial environment. Oulu has been selected as European Capital of Culture 2026 and the Oulu Dance Hack will be part of the autumn programme.
EU Dance Hack is a sustainable project; there are no flights and equipment is provided through partnerships with local businesses and universities. The carbon footprint of the project is calculated and compensated.
