Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery is a new Creative Europe project created by Central Europe Dance Theatre (Hungary), Bunker (Slovenia), HIPP (Croatia), Krakow Dance Theatre (Poland), M Studio (Romania) and Vitlycke - Centre for Performing Arts (Sweden) to foster local development of the contemporary dance fields. The project is announcing an Open Call for participation in the\u00a0DANCE CRITICS RESIDENCY from 19th - 23rd September 2024 in\u00a0<\/b>Krakow, Poland,<\/b><\/div><\/div>

What the Dance Critics Residency entails<\/b><\/div>
The DANCE CRITICS RESIDENCY is a five day workshop organised by\u00a0Krakow Dance Theatre<\/b>\u00a0as a part of Beyond Front@ Project. It will give the participants an opportunity to get acquainted with some of the concepts of contemporary performing arts criticism. The mentors will lead the discussions about how we see\/experience art, how we talk about art and how we write about art - with the focus on contemporary dance. The participants will reflect together on what dance criticism entails today: how to look at dance of different genres and in different formats\/media, and how to reflect it in various contexts. They will watch the performances, discuss and write about the performances seen.<\/div>

Who are the mentors<\/b><\/div>
The workshop will be led by established professionals, dance critics, theorists and editors of dance\/theatre journals:\u00a0Pia Brezav\u0161\u010dek<\/b>\u00a0(Maska Magazine) from Slovenia, and\u00a0Alicja Muller\u00a0<\/b>(Didaskalia. Theatre Journal) from Poland. Below you can find more about the mentors.<\/div>

Who can apply<\/b><\/div>
The application is open to young writers and critics at the beginning of their careers, who have already written and published some texts on contemporary performing arts and who come from countries of Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery: Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Sweden.<\/div>
The applicants should be able to read, converse and write in English.<\/div>

Timing of the Dance Critic's Residency 2024<\/b><\/div>

Expenses<\/b><\/div>
The project Beyond Front@ will cover the following expenses for participants:<\/div>
\u25cf Accommodation (covered in full)<\/div>
\u25cf Food (breakfast in the hotel, lunches during the working days)<\/div>
\u25cf Tickets for the dance performances\/additional events (covered in full)<\/div>
\u25cf Grant will be given to the participants (Polish and Hungarian participants in the gross amount of 450 eur, Slovenian, Croatian and Romanian participants in the gross amount of 600 eur, Swedish participants in the gross amount of 700 eur), which should cover all transportation costs and per diem costs. Amounts will be paid as a stipend, less tax, regulated by the tax laws of the country.<\/div><\/div><\/div>

More about the mentors<\/b><\/div>
Pia Brezav\u0161\u010dek\u00a0<\/b>is a cultural worker, editor, publicist, reviewer, theatrologist and dramaturge. She studied art history and philosophy and is a PhD candidate in Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana. She was the funding member and the editor of the\u00a0www.neodvisni.art<\/a>\u00a0national independent performing arts review website, established in 2019. She is the editor-in-chief of the bilingual performing arts journal Maska. In 2012, she was awarded the national contemporary dance association Ksenija Hribar Award for dance reviews. From 2017-2020, she was the president of the Association for Contemporary Dance Slovenia. She is teaching the course Dance, politics, sociology at the Academy for dance Alma Mater Europeana Slovenia. Her dramaturgy work includes collaborating with artists Bara Kolenc, Magdalena Reiter and Sa\u0161ka Rakef.<\/div>

Alicja M\u00fcller\u00a0<\/b>is a researcher and dance critic with a Ph.D. in humanities. She conducts courses on anthropology and aesthetics of movement, and cultural studies, and issues of contemporary culture at the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. She is the author of the book \u201eSob\u0105ta\u0144czenie: Mi\u0119dzy choreografi\u0105 a narracj\u0105\u201d (Krakow 2017) and has published in journals such as \u201eDidaskalia,\u201d \u201eTeksty Drugie,\u201d and \u201eCzas Kultury.\u201d She received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2023); she is a laureate of the Andrzej \u017burowski competition for young theatre critics (2014) and of the Institute of Theatre's competition for the best master's thesis in the field of knowledge about theatre, spectacle, and performance (2014\/2015). As a researcher and educator, she has collaborated with organizations such as the Off Camera Foundation, Performat Foundation, Art Stations Foundation, Krakow Dance Theatre, and Cricoteka.She has conducted numerous workshops on writing about dance and choreography and has published dozens of reviews and essays on performing arts.<\/div>
