Q: Am I applying to all three Dance Hacks in the EU Dance Hack project?

A: No, you are applying to just one – all Hacks have individual application processes.

Q: Can we apply as a group?

A: No, this open call is for individuals.

Q: If I pay for my own fare, can I fly there?

A: Unfortunately, we are unable to allow flying travel without any exceptions. If you recommend taking a car and traveling across Europe by yourself, we will likewise be very skeptical.

Q: What is advised for slow traveling?

A: Using any sort of public transportation (buses, trains, even boats). Note that you have to plan your own traveling to BPDH24, we can give you some suggestions, but won’t arrange the whole journey.

Q: Can I perform my own work at Budapest Dance Hack?

A: No. Budapest Dance Hack is a residential program for research. Participants who intend to work on their own project or complete pre-existing work are the very last people we want to welcome. We hope that every participant will arrive in Budapest with an open mind and a curious nature – and we look forward to seeing where the week takes us all.

Q: Can I apply with any special care responsibilities?

A: Yes, We can accommodate one candidate with special needs since we have the necessary human and financial resources. Those who use a wheelchair or hearing aid, for instance, or artists who have young children are examples of applicants with physical limitations. Although we are unable to pay a fee for the extra person, there is sufficient funds to cover their transportation, lodging, and daily expenses.

Q: Financial matters?

A: Each member receives a gross one-time payment of 2000 euros.

Q: Can I bring my own technology to the Hack?
A: You are welcome to participate in this way if you have something simple to bring that you would like to share or demo to the other participants. In the past, performers have brought things like instruments or a MoCap system. Rather than modifying systems that have already been developed for earlier shows, we invite everyone to start from scratch and design the movement and media together once the technology has been demonstrated and if we decide to create something using that specific technology.

Q: Do I have to have previous experience from international residency programmes?

A: We would like to have a diverse, creative team, both individually and as a group, therefore international residency program experience is not mandatory, just an advantage to have.
