DCL – Dance Communication Lab 2023
15th – 17th November, Budapest, Hungary
We happily share the news that we’re honoured to join Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery – a new Creative Europe project! Dance Communication Lab – DCL is the part of this program.
Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery is a Creative Europe project (2023-2026) created by Central Europe Dance Theatre – CEDT (Hungary), Bunker (Slovenia), Hrvatski institut za pokret i ples – HIPP (Croatia), Krakow Dance Theatre – Krakowski Teatr Tańca (Poland), M Studio (Romania) and Vitlycke – CPA (Sweden) to foster local development of the contemporary dance fields.
As the next step of the project Central Europe Dance Theatre (CEDT) announces an international OPEN CALL for participation in DCL – Dance Communication Lab in Budapest for dancers from the partner countries: Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Romania and Sweden.
But firstly, what is a DCL in general? DCL – Dance communication Lab is a short-term exchange formula between dancers, where the main aim is, that 6 professional dancers, coming from the above mentioned partner countries get to know each other through improvisation, which is the most distinctive process of creation in contemporary dance. The 2 day-long research project will take place under the mentorship of a Hungarian dancer-choreographer. The focus of DCL is the embodiment of imagination.
Key working elements are intentions and acting/operating – what dancers are causing with their doing in the performing space and how this effects them. This imaginative process will be embodied in a short performance in the end.
The performance might take any format or location (e.g. indoor, outdoor, walking), length is usually between 15-40 min and has public audience.
DCL CEDT-Budapest will take place 15th -17th November 2023 as part of the annual Sissi Autumn Dance Week (SŐT7) at the Bethlen Square Theater.
When? The creation will be presented on the 17th November
This DCL will conclude with a public improvised performance, presented on 17th November, the closing day of Sissi Autumn Dance Week. So, we will meet a bit earlier on the 14th at your arrival.
The work starts on the 15th and last 16th. Daily schedule of “rehearsals” – indoor at our rehearsing venue – will be discussed with the mentor later. Your departure day will be 18th.
